Inching Along

“Inchworm” on Pavement

Another curiosity appeared during our walk yesterday. A small caterpillar “inching” its way across the street seemed to have adapted colors of the asphalt. It seemed very appropriately named, and inchworm is much easier to say and remember than geometer moth, which this caterpillar will turn into if it survives.

We watched its slow progress for a bit, while marveling how it so well blended into the markings in the road. This perfect camouflage could protect it from nearly everything but a rolling tire. Hurry up little bug!
