Rising with the Sun

Takeoff at Dawn
Rising With the Sun
by Howard Eskildsen

The middle of the night
Seems a strange time to arise
To drive to the place
Where more than time flies

From security to concourse
Then onto a plane
With the thrust of jet engines
We rise upward again

The sun hugs the horizon
As we leave the runway behind
And it seems hard to imagine
That there was ever a time

When flight was but a dream
And most doubted we could
But a few must surely have known
That someday we would

Safe passage, my young friend.
