Aromatic Distraction

Japanese Waxleaf Privet

A semisweet aroma arising from the large bush by the birdfeeders interrupted my yardwork; I had to discover the source. White blossoms that I hadn’t noticed before burst from nearly every branch of the waxleaf privit plant. While its fickle fragrance confused the senses, (Did I like the smell or not?) the beauty of it’s flowers more than made up for the ambivalent odor and brightened the day, especially if I remained upwind.
