Morning Apparition

Falcon 9 Launch June 8, 2026

At the start of our morning walk, we spotted the strange looking, tadpole-like contrail seen in the top photo, and wondered what sort of jet had produced it. Only it wasn’t a jet, it was a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 29 satellites into earth orbit. As we watched it ascend away from us the reentry flare of the booster rocket briefly appeared behind the departing rocket as seen in the lower image.

I learned later the the booster successfully landed on the SpaceX drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas in the Atlantic Ocean. The booster successfully completed its 35th mission which is a new record. Wow!
