During times unfathomably long ago, water washed sand into ripples that later solidified in to sandstone rock after it was buried deeply within the earth. Later, enormous tectonic forces ever-so-slowly thrust the rock back to the surface, and cracked and reshaped the rock in the process.
A line angles from top to bottom of the rock in this photo, revealing where the rock had fractured and slipped about an inch or two in the process. Yet, it remained welded together under the immense heat and pressure at the time it occurred. Now it rests on the surface where it’s story can be read as a great stone page from nature’s book of geology.
