Great flakes of falling snow filtered the color from the scene, but the caribou were unfazed as they grazed on food that was still within easy reach. They never even paused to look up as our bus rumbled away; ingesting enough calories to fuel the metabolic fires to keep them warm through the coming cold was far more important.
