Egret Eats

Dining at the Bank

This great egret posed momentarily on the hedge by a local bank. What it was studying intently, we did not know at first. Suddenly its head shot forward and downward and then snapped back with the tail and hind legs of a small lizard protruding briefly from its yellow beak. After a couple of quick gulps the tiny reptile was gone and everything had returned to normal except for the lizard, of course.
