Rains and winds abated and allowed a lovely walk along an old railway that has been converted into a trail. Debris and fallen trees remained from the recent storm, and creeks overflowed their banks and threatened to collapse a small section of the pathway. Rabbits hopped here and there while small birds chirped and twitteredContinue reading “Once Upon a Railway”

Sunshine After Rain
Rain and wind buffeted the trees and streets as an atmospheric river poured over the Pacific Northwest. Finally gaps in the “streams” allowed fingers of sunlight through to paint this rainbow. It was a welcome sign; I was beginning to wonder when the animals would start pairing up to look for Noah. #rainbow #rain #atmosphericriverContinue reading “Sunshine After Rain”
Flying Low
Hurdlers bobbed up and down as they seemed to fly over the obstacles at a track meet at Southwestern Oregon Community College recently. Unfortunately, one of the contestants accidentally knocked down the hurdle of his adjacent teammate, causing the teammate to stumble and taking him out of the race. At the finish line the offendedContinue reading “Flying Low”
Oh Deer Me!
The frequent sight of deer grazing peacefully at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Oregon, provides a pleasant diversion from the rigors of education and brings a welcome bit of tranquility to the sometimes hectic life of the students. #deer #swocc #campussurprise #coosbayoregon
Coffee Cat
Awaiting the morning brew, cat-feinated obviously. #brew #coffee #cat #caffeinated #morningjoe
Photobombed
I took a photo of the Gastro Hub restaurant where we had dinner before a recent flight. Unfortunately a pillar photobombed the image; from a different angle it looked like “Astro Hub,” which is a bit more appealing. The hostess was as bland as wallpaper paste; but the server was very nice, the chicken quesadillaContinue reading “Photobombed”
Oak Limbs
These trees appear to reach out with their arm-like branches ready to embrace, or perhaps frighten passers by. Most days they seem more friendly than sinister, but when the giant skeleton appears among them around Halloween, they can be downright scary. #oaktree #limbs #branches #halloween #scary
Overachiever
While most of the trees in the neighborhood realize that spring is just beginning and have barely started to awaken, this one has already sprung out with a full, fresh set of leaves. It’s a pleasant sight even if I don’t know why it was in such a hurry. #tree #leafy #spring
Shadow Monsters Inc.
Sun rays, direct and reflected, created a complex shadow “monster” on the wall that resembles something from Mystery Science Theater 3000. It took me some time to figure out just how the shadows related to the objects in the foreground. It helped when I realized that the lower shadows on the wall to the leftContinue reading “Shadow Monsters Inc.”
Still Bobbin’ Along
This time of year brings many birds passing through as they wait for their northern breeding grounds to thaw out. This year has brough a bumper crop of robins, many more than usual, and they have been here longer than expected. They are a pleasant, welcome sight, and I can’t help wondering if they areContinue reading “Still Bobbin’ Along”
