Atlantic Dawn

Soft twilight crept between the curtains to tickle my eyelids and entice me out on the baclony while on the way home from the Caribbean. Gold-burnished clouds hearlded the approaching sunrise which followed minutes later. Then, like someone hiding from view until they’ve had their morning coffee, the sun temporarily ducked behind the clouds, beforeContinue reading “Atlantic Dawn”

Serenity After Tragedy

Mount Pelee rests serenely in the background, looking down on Saint Pierre which it destroyed in a massive volcanic explosion in 1902. Since that time, the town and the landscape have healed and have reclaimed their prior tranquility. Preserved ruins in the foreground serve as a reminder of the sleeping dragon within the mountain onContinue reading “Serenity After Tragedy”

The green monkeys were imported from Africa nearly 350 years agoContinue reading “Hide and Seek”

Shirley Sights

Once, these heights held cannons that protected the harbour from Spanish and French pirates. I suspect that the English pirates had little to fear since their skulduggery was generally supported byContinue reading “Shirley Sights”

Booby Watching

We spent a considerable amount of time in the Sky Observation Lounge on the upper deck at the front of the boat. I was fascinated by these brown boobies surfing the air pressure wave ahead of the bow. Soaring back and forth, they rarely flapped a wing until they spotted a fish and then doveContinue reading “Booby Watching”
