It’s over; the mild autumn weather has turned frigid and freezing temperatures have arrived. We even had to put a blanket on the pool. As I sadly did my duty, I couldn’t help saying, “See ya’ next spring.” #cold #winter #pool #freeze

Ice-cold Birdbath
This morning was our first hard freeze in two years. It was 24 degrees at the local airport, and while not as cold in our sheltered yard, it froze water in the birdbaths. About a quarter inch thick layer held leaves in suspension while a few icicles drooped along the edge of the birdbath. IContinue reading “Ice-cold Birdbath”
Shiver Hula
It’s cold out, especially for Florida. Snow fell in the panhandle and here, a hard freeze is likely Friday night. So was this hula lady dancing or shivering? Even I was shaking a bit when I got this photo, and no, I wasn’t dancing. #hula #hulalady #ukulele #cold #freeze
That’ll Dew
Dew formed on the windows as temperatures hovered near freezing yesterday morning. What a relief; I remember living in places where it was frost or even a hard layer of ice that regularly accumulated on the inside of the windows in winter. Nope, it wasn’t quite cold enough here to freeze last night, and asContinue reading “That’ll Dew”
Christmas Camellia
The camellia in our yard has tolerated all the cool weather sent its way and has produced many blossoms. Barring any hard freezes, some of them may survive the whole blooming Christmas season. #camellia #christmas #freeze
Jack’s Back!
Jack Frost has made a visit for real for the first time this year in central Florida. Temperatures weren’t low enough to freeze any standing water, and most of the plants are doing ok so far but colder temperatures will likely come, and it will be necessary to cover the pineapple plants when it does.Continue reading “Jack’s Back!”
Phoenix From the Frost
Perhaps the alter ego of the Phoenix, this blossom arose, not from the ashes of fire, but from the grips of a hard freeze. It weathered the cold without protection or cover, enduring by its own innate strength, a beautiful survivor of adversity. #phoenix #blossom #freeze #frost
Season to Be Freezin’
No sympathy is expected from northerners, but we do get cold in Florida as well. A hard freeze is expected each of the next three nights. In an all out attempt to salvage our pineapple patch, we have covered the plants and placed lights under the cover. Will it work? Will know in a fewContinue reading “Season to Be Freezin’”
Deja Vu All Over Again
Another chilly morning in Florida. The ice is from water from the sprinklers that were turned on during the cold night to protect the anti-siphon valve from freezing. Will find out what plants we have left later in the day. On a bright note, there will be lots of birds at the feeders today toContinue reading “Deja Vu All Over Again”
