This tiny little frog, resembling a critter from another realm, clung to our garage door under the nightlight looking for a bug breakfast. It has been so dry lately I couldn’t help but wonder where it found enough water to hatch from an egg and go through whatever sort of tadpole stage its kind doesContinue reading “The Greenling”

Amphibian Ambivalence
The license says it is a frog, but it looks more like a toad to me. #frog #toad #car
Frosty the Frog
This poor little frog sat immobile on the edge of the road, soaking up sun rays in hopes of getting warm enough to be able to hop again. It was too cold to leap away as I took this up-close photo but rather, remained motionless. Though mostly out of harms way, I certainly hope heContinue reading “Frosty the Frog”
Window Plopper
The blinds were closed for the night; I was playing ukulele in the music room when I heard a distinct plop outside my window. My eyes grew wide, I stopped playing, and turned towards the shade. What evil might be lurking in the darkness? An intruder, a racoon, a bear? (Yes, we have seen themContinue reading “Window Plopper”
Mushroom Rock
As I dropped some weeds on the compost area behind the shed, I saw a very strange “rock” next to a stone slab. Curious as to where it might have come from, I looked from a different perspective to discover that it was a toadstool, not a rock. Mystery solved. Now if I could justContinue reading “Mushroom Rock”
Three Little Birds (and blooms)
Three metal bird sculptures balance on a pole extending from a flower pot, which has three blossoms. In the background, a frog watches from the hole in a birdhouse, perhaps hoping to hear a melody so “pure and true.” On the other hand the three little birds are giving him their backside, so maybe hisContinue reading “Three Little Birds (and blooms)”
Must You?
He’s back. Though recently evicted, this pesky frog took up a defiant reoccupation of the birdhouse meant for wrens. I would consider having him tarred and feathered if the presence of feathers would not heighten his sense of entitlement to this avian accommodation.
Eviction Notice
We put up two birdhouses in January, and while a couple of chickadees checked one of them out, none took up residence. Other creatures did, however. One of the houses had a nasty wasp nest, which may have been why the chickadees weren’t interested. The nest and attendant wasps were forcefully removed with the helpContinue reading “Eviction Notice”
Home Sweet Home
While tidying up our pineapple plot, we discovered this frog snugly resting on a leaf. These pineapple plants produce really delicious fruit, so this frog has a very sweet home indeed.
