Two piliated woodpeckers pecked away at trees and stumps and about anything else made of wood in our backyard. Chips of wood from limbs and old stumps flew in various directions and littered the ground below proving that unlike the proverbial woodchuck, they certainly could chuck wood. #woodpecker #piliated, #woodchuck #chuckwood

Been There, Pecked That

A dead tree provides life-giving nourishment to this piliated woodpecker. Obviously this isn’t the first time at this tree. The bird alternately listened and pecked here and there, frequently finding morsels of food.
