Past Its Prime

Old Pump in Back Yard

Recent rain freshened the old hand pump which is much in need of cleaning and repainting. Though it is in good structural shape, it would need attachment to a well, new leathers and priming to function again.

It brings back memories of childhood when we used such pumps to obtain water outside our home, at campsites, and even in my grandfather’s house. For now this pump is only decorative but does provide a refuge for lurking lizards. Perhaps someday it will be resurrected and returned to use, but preferably as a novelty rather than a necessity.
