Leapin’ Lizard!

Lizard clinging to rim of pool.

Somehow it ended up in the pool, bobbing about while we finished our lunch. Whether it fell in or leapt in I don’t know, but after several desperate attempts, it finally climbed part way out of the cold water, but could go no farther.

When I approached to offer assistance it jumped back into the water and paddled futilely while going nowhere. After a couple of attempts, I captured it, then carefully carried it outside the pool cage to a bright spot in the sun on a nearby bush. Instead of dashing for cover, it collapsed in the warm sunshine, probably grateful that it was not slowly being digested.

For my efforts it rewarded me with a “deposit” in my hands; no good deed goes unpunished. It was easily washed off, however, with no harm to the holder. After all, that is what intact skin and a good immune system are for.
