The little nut cast a big shadow on the road and was a reminder that acorn season is upon us. They will be falling in large numbers over the next several weeks and leaving their stains all over the driveway and street as they are run over and crushed. However, it is fun to step on them while walking; they pop with a satisfying crunch. On the other hand, it isn’t much fun when they land on my head with a hollow clunk before bouncing to the ground, even though my wife thinks it sounds funny.
