This 8-10 foot long alligator appeared from seemingly nowhere near the margin of the lake. It commanded our attention as it appeared to guard the waters below, and we were quite happy to be on a boardwalk high over the water rather than walking a trail by the water’s edge. #alligator #boardwalk

Our Lady of the Cypress
This appears to be natural sculpting by the bark of the cypress tree, not a carving, but if someone actually modeled for this woody sculpture, they definitely have had too much collagen injected into their lips. #cypress #silversprings
Art and Life
While visiting with family and friends at the boardwalk along Lake Dora, Florida, this grackle stopped by, perhaps to admire the avian artwork on the post supporting the shelter’s roof. Whether he thought it was a fine representation of himself, or perhaps a romantic fantasy of his heart’s desire, I’ll never know, but he seemedContinue reading “Art and Life”
Shy-ris
It hid in the shadows, mingled among the cypress and leaves along the swampy margin of Henderson Lake, Florida. Were it not for a lucky glance we might have missed it, which would have been unfortunate, for it did brighten our day. #iris #swamp #hendersonlake
Orange Ya Glad
An old knock-knock joke ends with the punchline: “Orange ya glad I didn’t say bananas?” Don’t know where my kids found that one, but maybe it was payback. It reminds me of a t-shirt we saw recently that read: “Dad, a man you can always rely on and he tells the greatest jokes.” Well maybeContinue reading “Orange Ya Glad”
A Fool’s Tools
We were in Grand Cayman with friends when this photo was taken, and it certainly captured the spirit of foolish pleasure. I wish we were back there celebrating again today, and that’s no foolin’. #aprilfool #grandcayman #ukulele
50-meter Mullet Mosey
Hoards of mullet fish casually swam in the outflow from Homosassa Springs in Florida, gradually getting nowhere. For all their swimming they seemed stationary over the ground, merely offsetting the water’s slow passage. Occasionally one would dart off and leap through the air and then loudly splash back into the water, but mostly they seemedContinue reading “50-meter Mullet Mosey”
Rooftop Raptor
Be it voles, squirrels, or birds at the feeder, this predator is looking for food, and as far as his potential prey is concerned, he is up to no good. #hawk #bird #birdfeeder
A Bird in the Bush
There was something unusual about this bird when we saw it at the Kennedy Space Center. It just didn’t look quite like any dove that I was familiar with. I attempted several times to get its photo as it moseyed throughout the bush. Finally it made this appearance so I could identify it once IContinue reading “A Bird in the Bush”
Salty Morning Sunrise
The sky was full of orange, blues, and subtle hues as the rising sun called the day to life during our morning walk. It inspired visions of Caribbean scenes that we have enjoyed in the past, and the warm moist air carried the feel of the sea. Perhaps it is time to schedule a cruiseContinue reading “Salty Morning Sunrise”
