A simple trip to the store brought home an unexpected burst of beauty for our yard. The lovely hydrangea caught our attention and found a way into our cart along with groceries. I suspect the plant will last much longer than the groceries.

Reflecting On Brunch
Once this propeller powered passengers aloft on a Convair 440. Now it decorates the wall at the Flying Boat Tap Room near Belleview, Florida, reflecting the bunch enjoying brunch on Sunday morning.
Jet-Sun
I was getting close-up images of the Sun in red, hydrogen-alpha light, when this airplane crossed through the field of view. It makes me wonder of the people on the airplane at the time and how they would feel to know that from my perspective they had had a “moment in the Sun.” Also, happyContinue reading “Jet-Sun”
Planetary Pair
For a brief time this morning while on our walk, both trees and clouds parted to reveal this planetary pair. Jupiter on the left and Venus on the right are meeting for a day or two and then Jupiter will continue to ascend higher in the sky each morning, leaving the brilliant Venus behind inContinue reading “Planetary Pair”
If Wishes Were Fishes
Decorating the entryway seems to have gone swimmingly with some glassy finn-ishing touches.
Roadside Colors
This time of year, the roadsides are bursting with color, almost to the point of distraction. But what a lovely distraction.
Day’s End at the Cove
The day began with a vision of a golden moon rising and reflected in a nearby pond, with a parade of planets, Saturn, Mars, Venus, and Jupiter, in the predawn sky. Even shy Neptune reluctantly appeared through the telescope. The day ended with a quiet cruise on Lake Henderson in the soft light of theContinue reading “Day’s End at the Cove”
Moon in a Room
Before the Plague we visited the British Museum of Natural history in London. Since I am a certifiable ”lunartic,” my favorite display was this six meter moon globe that is based on the Lunar Orbiter images and is very accurate. It is translucent and dramatically illuminated from the inside to see more details than couldContinue reading “Moon in a Room”
Planetary Parade
This morning on our walk we saw the above spectacle, a rare alignment of the planets along with the Moon. Next month, Mercury will join the parade as well. Additionally, Neptune, not visible to the eye, lies between Venus and Jupiter. By the weekend Jupiter and Venus will be very close together, and the alignmentContinue reading “Planetary Parade”
A Butterfly Flew By
While I was tending to the yard a large, yellow butterfly flew by and landed on a nearby bush. It brightened my day and obligingly allowed its photo to be taken before it flip-fapped away on its merry meanderings.
