It’s that time of year again, the azaleas are in full bloom. It’s more than enough to brighten any late January day. #azalea #blossoms #winter

Turkey Lurking
Wandering along a sandy trail in the woods, we chanced across this flock of turkeys. The male seemed a bit more impressed with himself than were the ladies (as usual!). We kept our distance and watched as they slowly meandered into the brush, stopping now and then to peck and swallow some choice morsel. TheContinue reading “Turkey Lurking”
Look at the Birdies
There were no birds near the feeder this particular morning, or so I thought. Then something fluttered down to the ground. A quick look with binoculars showed not one, but three goldfinches to the left of the white pole in the upper photo. Though barely visible in the top photo, the lower, cropped and fullyContinue reading “Look at the Birdies”
Time To Leaf
It’s late January and flurries of leaves, not snow are falling in central Florida. All the while new buds are sprouting, soon to be followed by new green leaves. Be they shedding or budding anew, for the trees it is time to leaf. #leaves #trees #sprouts #buds #leaf
Giraffic Bark
It looked like a giraffe was hiding in the woods as we rounded a corner during our morning walk. Nope, it was a tree instead, and since we have not been able to identify it so far, we just call it the giraffe tree. I couldn’t help but wonder what a real giraffe might thinkContinue reading “Giraffic Bark”
Mighty Mouth
It was singing outside the guest bedroom window, it’s little body booming out a very large sound. Since the window was shut, we didn’t quite need hearing protection. We don’t mind at all, and actually look forward to their songs, though my wife suggested that it’s name should be “Cy” as in Cy Wren. Yes,Continue reading “Mighty Mouth”
Solar Specks
A passing flock of birds, likely ibises, left their respects on a neighbor’s solar panels. It’s not the first time. The panels are on the east side of a steep roof so perform best during the morning hours; at least they would were they not in the shade of nearby trees at that time. ByContinue reading “Solar Specks”
Diva Dreaming
Miss Diva is a little shy when we come to visit but is relaxed enough to snooze while we are present. Little by little we are making friends but always on her terms, of course. #diva #dog #sleep
Home for Whom?
Along a wooded trail a hole in a tree appeared and tempted the curious to discover what may lie within. Is it just a hollow in a tree, or is it a home for some unseen creature, perhaps a lizard, a toad, or a squirrel. I doubt that a bird would use it for aContinue reading “Home for Whom?”
Con Art
Unsettled weather patterns set clouds at the cruising altitude of a passing airliner. A jet plowed a furrow through the clouds that quickly filled with the contrail left behind. With the sky as the canvas, the airplane’s trail appeared to be the work of a master “con” artist. #conart #contrail #clouds #sky #jet #airliner
