As we drove by on our way to Door County recently, the colorful sunrise painted a rosy picture of the American Family Field, home of the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team. The team is a favorite of our Wisconsin relatives, and this year, so far, has really been bright for them. They finished the season withContinue reading “What’s Brewing?”

Oopsie
When we approached this store in Galena, Illinois, I thought that it was curious that they would diagram the O’s in “Poopsie’s” to look like lollipops. Upon entering, one of the first sale items we saw was a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle labeled “101 Pooping Dogs” with a matching picture. More items of a similarContinue reading “Oopsie”
Great Escape
Skeletons in Galena, Illinois seemed to have escaped from somebody’s closets and appear to be descending towards the storefronts. I could not understand the purpose of their quest until I saw the leather goods store directly beneath them. Perhaps they were hoping to once again be covered with skin. #skeletons #closet #leather #skin #galenaillinois
Baraboo and a Circus View
While few may have heard of Baraboo, Wisconsin, many have heard of the Ringling Brothers Circus which gave their first performance there and made it their winter headquarters from 1886 through 1918. It’s a beautiful location along the Baraboo River, but seems quite a chilly place to have kept their exotic animals and handlers. However,Continue reading “Baraboo and a Circus View”
Eagle Bluff Lighthouse
Serenely perched along Strawberry Channel on the Door Peninsula, the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse has guided ships to and from Fish Creek Harbor on Green Bay for over 150 years. We were delighted by the soft, afternoon light that warmed the air as well as the scene, but I had to imagine that sailors on stormyContinue reading “Eagle Bluff Lighthouse”
Fall Is in the Air
Unusually high temperatures in Wisconsin have given way to more seasonal weather after a cold front passed through that dropped some rain and chilled the air. Now the temperatures are falling like the leaf that was serendipitously captured in this photo of Devil’s Lake. #fall #autumleaf #wisconsin #cold #devilslake
Ripples in Time
Long before animals or plants roved or grew on land, gentle wavelets in a shallow sea rippled the sands along the shore. Over the eons heat and pressure turned the sands to stone, then fused it into quartzite. Those rocky remnants of that distant past still bear the ripples that were patterned so long ago.Continue reading “Ripples in Time”
Overdressed
Someone seems to have taken pity on this lamp post as it shivered in the autumn chill, and provided it with a nice, warm cover for its bean-pole torso. However, the daytime temperatures were over 80 degrees while we were there, and frankly, it looked a bit overdressed. #lamppost #crochet #tworivers #wisconsin #autumn #overdressed
Pancakes and Goats
Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, bills itself as “The restaurant with goats on the roof.” I’m not sure why anyone would want goats on any roof, let alone a restaurant, but it is quite a novelty. Maybe it’s a Swedish thing. At least the goats stayed on the roof and out ofContinue reading “Pancakes and Goats”
Beach Bum
It’s a familial disorder that occasionally skips a generation: bobbing around with bottoms up and heads down while searching for interesting rocks along the water’s edge. Typical. #rockhound #bottomsup #familialdisorder
