I was startled and excited to see the colors red and blue at the bird feeders near the red, white, and blue of our windsock. It was the first time we ever saw a painted bunting at our feeders. It has been back since, and we hope it gives us a good “Birdie-net” review soContinue reading “Red, White, Blue, and Painted Too”

Coveted Comet Puzzle
We finally completed the amazing Magic Puzzle Company’s “The Coveted Comet” puzzle, where up is down, and upside down is right side up. Curiously-shaped pieces, that fit together well, portrayed various fantastical scenes and humanoid creatures doing God knows what. One such critter was looking through a microscope, and Fairy immediately named him “Howard!” OnceContinue reading “Coveted Comet Puzzle”
Beak Tree
It was a funny sight, a brown and tan fungus growing from the side of an old oak tree that almost looked like a duck’s bill. However, since it is a sign of impending doom to the tree, perhaps its humorous appearance is not all that it is quacked up to be. #oaktree #fungus #duckbill
Bug Eyed
As I set up the solar telescope to do a sunspot count, I saw what looked like two eyes on the driveway looking back at me. Could the ants have constructed their own earthen eyes to watch for danger? Probably not, but they have little to fear from me anyway. I use glass lenses forContinue reading “Bug Eyed”
Green Guardian
It stood guarding the opening to the rain gauge that I was about to empty. I very carefully dumped out the water, and the spider crawled to the outside of the tube. After the gauge was replaced, I took this photo, and then looked up the name of the spider on the internet. I couldn’tContinue reading “Green Guardian”
Faux Flower Fungus
The bright, white bloom in the center of greenery had us wondering just what sort of flower it might be. Then it became obvious; it was a mushroom in the middle of a plant, not a flower. I doubt that this was intentional, but if mushrooms had a sense of humor, it surely would haveContinue reading “Faux Flower Fungus”
Bright Sprite
Sunrays through the doorway projected a bright image that reminded me of a Fairy, or perhaps an angel, on the living room floor. However, I prefer to think of it as a Fairy; she’s a lot more fun than any angel. #sprite #bright #angel #fairy
Carcasses
These cars have come to the end of the road and appear to be on their way to an automotive cremation. All is not lost, however, for their metal will be recycled and perhaps some of it will be reincarnated. #autos #endoftheroad #reincarnated #cremation
Fuzzy Farm
When I discovered these furry crop of mushrooms in the backyard, I couldn’t help laughing over my fuzzy little farm. #fuzzyfarm #mushrooms
Mel Odorous
This curious little bug watched as I cleaned some cocoons from the door jam. For some reason I left it alone, other than take its picture. Good thing. I later found out that it is Euthyrhynchus floridanus, aka Florida predatory stink bug. I’m really glad that I didn’t find out how it got its name.Continue reading “Mel Odorous”
