Amethyst in Orchid
They are as beautiful under the microscope, with their amethyst colors sparkling from cells, as they are to the unaided eye. No wonder they make little lady feel like dancing and playing the ukulele. I think I’ll join her. #orchid #amethyst #hula #ukulele
Greener Pastures
Warm spring weather and ample rain have produced lush green pastures perfect for grazing. Content cows mosey along not even thinking of the other side of the fence for they are already where they want to be. #pastures #cattle #grazing
Welcome or Not?
Since we’ve been here 21 years, the sign couldn’t be referring to us–I hope. But I couldn’t help wondering if it applied to vacationers, newcomers, or snowbirds. Hopefully it doesn’t refer to vacationers since, one way or another, the tourist economy probably helped finance the fuel in his pickup. As for snowbirds, it just doesn’tContinue reading “Welcome or Not?”
Solar Hot Spot
Yesterday morning the sun unleased another solar flare, and I caught views of it fading away. The brightest area on the upper left image is around 50,000 miles across and shows the flare shortly after its peak while the lower right shows the same region after the flare has ended. Through the Looking Glass

Promise or Harbinger?
Rain, winds, thunder, and lightning shook the region in recent days and left this parting sign in the evening sky. Is it an assurance that that the tempest is over, or a warning of turbulent times to come? #sunset #storm #rain #harbinger #thunder #lightning

Ukulele Sunset
Rays of the lowering sun caressed two of my favorite ukuleles, each with its different style. The one on the wall came from Ua Huka in the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia. The one on the desk came from a Hawaiian company. Each is a masterpiece of its own style with their own distinctive sounds,Continue reading “Ukulele Sunset”
Peepin’ and Sleepin’
I can hear it now, owl parents “discussing” who has to stay up all day taking care of the kids that just won’t go to sleep. During a past guided tour of the St. John’s River in Florida, I got photos of a dozing mom and one of her time-confused offspring. Perhaps in time juniorContinue reading “Peepin’ and Sleepin’”
