A new ukulele arrived today, not for me, but for a friend who had seen and played my outdoor ukulele. They are inexpensive, have a great sound, can tolerate extreme temperatures, and are very strong and durable. I use mine for a travel ukulele; it has been all over there US, in the Pacific, theContinue reading “Two of a Kind”

The Presence of the Past
Round engine, open cockpit, two sets of wings, tail on the ground. When it comes to airplanes nothing says blast from the past more than those factors. This plane isn’t an antique, however, but rather a homebuilt 3/4 scale replica of a biplane designed and flown over 60 years ago. Having flown similar airplanes, IContinue reading “The Presence of the Past”
Watcher in the Woods
It’s always around, somewhere. Sometimes it’s in the back yard, sometimes next door and sometimes across the street. Always watching, and it’s far better to to be its admirer rather than its prey. #redshoulderedhawk #birdofprey, #hawk
Of Wings and Dreams
I cannot remember a time when airplanes weren’t a part of my life. My dad had learned to fly in 1929 and passed that passion on to his children. I had many dreams of planes I’d fly and places I go in them. Looking back, I was able to live more of those dreams thanContinue reading “Of Wings and Dreams”
The Trouble With People
The afternoon had been going great until those two-leggers sat down and started talking. No more treats or games, and no more head, back, or belly rubs. Just yakety-yak. Boring. #dog #talk #boring
Great Tern Out
We were walking along the beach Halloween morning when a flock of hundreds of terns flew by for several minutes making little sound, but definitely attracting our attention. We looked up cautiously as they flew over and kept our eyes open and our mouths shut. #tern #beach #annamariaisland
Decapod Dead or Alive?
I have never seen a crab like this on the beach before. It wasn’t moving, but was quite large with massive claws. I wasn’t sure if it was dead or alive, but the birds weren’t messing with it, so i figured neither should I. #crab #beach #annamariaisland
Bridge Over Sarasota Bay
The sun set with a great green flash and daylight faded gently into darkness revealing a scene illuminated by bridge lights and the Sarasota skyline. #sarasota #greenflash
Orion Dawn
The faintest rays of sunlight reveal thin clouds over Orion in the lower central photo. Mars is the brightest point of light on the upper right part of the image. Electronic technology makes this possible; with a regular camera, a hand held photo like this would just show steaks of light. #orion #dawn
Taking a Bow
Another happy thought from our recent trip to the South Pacific.
