This amaryllis grew in just a few weeks from a bulb in a small puck of soil that expanded greatly with the simple addition of water. All we had to do then was wait. It’s amazing how some water and a little patience can brighten one’s life.

Puzzle for the Birds
We had a great time New Years Eve and the day after putting this beauty together. It was fun, but more challenging than first expected. But we still love our little avian adversaries on the puzzle and will definitely do this again in the not-too-near future.
Maui Splash
Well, this gift from family made quite a ”splash.” It came just in time for the new year. It has been special to us since we first tasted in in Maui several years ago. We were touring the Maui upcountry on the flanks of Haleakala and were delighted by the winery that produced this wine.Continue reading “Maui Splash”
Room for Wren(t)
The Fed-X delivery man brought joy to bird and people as well on New Years Eve day. The nine-foot tall shepherd’s rod was just right to mount our wren house on. We will be watching closely for new tenants and hope they produce offspring for us to enjoy. At any rate, it is a funContinue reading “Room for Wren(t)”
Cows Love to Party
May you have a very happy 2022 with very little to “beef” about.
Last Lights
Tonight is New Year’s Eve and we will turn out the holiday lights for the last time since tomorrow will be New Year’s Day. Venus and Mercury
The telescope awaited cloud dispersal in the early evening twilight yesterday, and I was finally able to get images of Venus (upper right) and Mercury (lower right). Venus shows a very thin crescent since it is between Earth and the Sun, while tiny Mercury appears round and is on the opposite side of the Sun.Continue reading “Venus and Mercury”
Florida + Water = Gators
Gator: “No supply chain issues where I’m concerned.” The trail at Circle B Bar Preserve in Polk County, Florida, meandered through huge, contorted oak trees, shrouded in Spanish moss. Morning mist slowly yielded to the rising sun, then the trail turned away from the woods, past a windmill that revolved intermittently in the fickle breeze.Continue reading “Florida + Water = Gators”
Sandhill Cranes
The day after Christmas we went to the Circle B Bar Preserve and saw trees, marshes, a lake, birds, and alligators. This trio of sandhill cranes came walking by slowly without any show of fear of our close proximity. Indeed, they showed far less concern than we had when we passed by some alligators earlierContinue reading “Sandhill Cranes”
