Ukulele Sunset
Rays of the lowering sun caressed two of my favorite ukuleles, each with its different style. The one on the wall came from Ua Huka in the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia. The one on the desk came from a Hawaiian company. Each is a masterpiece of its own style with their own distinctive sounds,Continue reading “Ukulele Sunset”
Accidental Travel Blog
Yesterday I was uploading my journal of our travels to French Polynesia in 2012 when I accidently posted our visit to Fakarava on the blog site instead of the “pages” site. It seemed to have a good reception, so each Saturday I will post another daily journal entry here as well. The trip began withContinue reading “Accidental Travel Blog”
Small Beginnings
Nearly 20 years ago we bought this ukulele on our last day in Maui. We didn’t have room in our luggage for it, so we had it mailed home. It arrived several days later in a simple cardboard box with no other packing. To our relief and surprise, it was in perfect condition inspite ofContinue reading “Small Beginnings”
My Own Constellation

Had we been fishing,Continue reading “One Good Tern Deserves Another”
Back to the Beginning
Nearly two weeks ago we spent the first night of our stay in French Polynesia in Tahiti. Now we are back on the island of Tahiti after five days in Moorea and seven days in Bora Bora. It has been a fun and eventful trip, and we still have a little more exploring to doContinue reading “Back to the Beginning”
Moods of Otemanu
Towering Otemanu shows many moods as seen from different angles and in different lighting. Sometimes it seems bold and imposing and other times shy and retiring, shrouding its face in clouds. On this day it seemed charmed by the Sun, boldly attended by bright background clouds, barely offering us a sideways glance over its shoulder.Continue reading “Moods of Otemanu”
Tiki Twins
Perhaps some have considered them idols or gods, but to us these carvings are spiritual links to people we have come to know and love, and are honored to have as friends. #tiki #FrenchPolynesia #
