Season to Be Freezin’
No sympathy is expected from northerners, but we do get cold in Florida as well. A hard freeze is expected each of the next three nights. In an all out attempt to salvage our pineapple patch, we have covered the plants and placed lights under the cover. Will it work? Will know in a fewContinue reading “Season to Be Freezin’”
Tis the Season
And jolly we were as we took in the sights of holiday decorations during a recent evening walk through the neighborhood. It was a lovely way to celebrate the beginning of winter and the holiday season. We really do enjoy the decorations, the holly, the lights and sounds, but our favorite is the mistletoe. #ChristmasContinue reading “Tis the Season”
Santa, Frosty, and Jack
During a recent chilly morning walk we saw Santa, Frosty and Jack’s Frost. While we didn’t actually see Jack, he left his handiwork on the shivering shingles on the house nearby as well as on several others, and from the looks of the weather report, he is far from done. #santa #frostythesnowman #jackfrost
Reflecting on Sunset
The rain had passed and a glow in the west portended for better weather to come. The setting sun painted the blue clouds with a pink pastel that complimented the grape lights on the lanai. Meanwhile indoors, the Christmas tree cast its light upon the walls and both are reflected in the window of theContinue reading “Reflecting on Sunset”
Like a Bird on the Wing
Five years ago I took this photo of ibises perched on the water feature at my place of work. It was my last working holiday season. Time has really flown by since I quit my profession of 42 years. I have been asked if I miss working, but I have been so busy doing allContinue reading “Like a Bird on the Wing”
All That Flitters Is Not Gold
Today we spotted our first goldfinch of the season, and belying its name, it had no gold. Its feathers were in winter colors, like the birds in the photo above, but its distinctive wing markings gave it away. They always show up between Thanksgiving and Christmas, chased south by the cold. When their feathers turnContinue reading “All That Flitters Is Not Gold”
Nothing Beats a Beater
Nothing beats licking the beaters after they have been used to make frosting for cookies. It make a person feel like a kid again, even if you’re an old beater. #frosting #cookies #beaters
Up, Up, and Away
Cape Canaveral is nearly 140 miles away, yet we can see rockets as they are launched here in Ocala, Florida. We were playing a game at friends house yesterday, but we put the cards down and went outside to see this launch. Flames from the first stage were visible through the trees, then finally itContinue reading “Up, Up, and Away”
Red In the Morning, Tornado Warning?
“Red in the morning, sailor take warning” applies to landlubbers as well. Our morning walk was cut short by rain precipitated by an approaching cold front. A short time later the rising Sun briefly painted the sky red, and the weather radio warned of a tornado watch for the area until 4 PM. Soon theContinue reading “Red In the Morning, Tornado Warning?”
